My opinion of Rihanna has never been … well anything, really. I could take it or leave it. Just another pop star who kind of seemed a little all over the place musically for a while. I’ve got to give her major credit, however..this girl is a chameleon. It seems so me that whatever vibe she’s currently giving in her music, her style follows suit.

She was so adorable when she first appeared on the scene with her up-beat dance tracks

Then she drastically changed her look to a more edgy “good girl gone bad” style, complete with short, black hair and lots of leather.

I loved this cropped hairstyle on her – she can really pull anything off though, let’s be honest. But what didn’t seem to fit with this extreme persona change was the fact that she was singing songs like “umbrella” (I despise that damn song) and “take a bow”. The whole image seemed forced by her creative team as some kind of marketing strategy, which is why I guess I never thought to take her seriously.

Then some terrible shit happened to her.

When her fifth album, Loud, came out, she got another make-over. Something to reflect the tone of the album…flaming red, clown hair.

It suited her at the time – and was PERFECT for her video “only girl in the world”. And I still can’t believe that mess with the S&M video. How do you have an entire team of people working for you, and that shit happens?

Anyway, I am obsessed with her new single from her 6th coming album, Talk That Talk, “We Found Love”. The video is INSANE. Like, Holy shit have you seen this yet? 

The video is supposed to set the tone for the upcoming album, which seems intense.

 But you know what, she’s seriously been through some shit, so she’s got some really interesting material she could be using in her songs. She’s back to a more natural look, which I really love on her. It’s a more approachable and relatable image, which makes me feel like she should be taken seriously going into this 6th album. She’s got my attention now.
